Lake Te Anau (Māori: Te Ana-au) is in the southwestern corner of the South Island of New Zealand. The lake covers an area of 344 km2 (133 sq mi), making it the second-largest lake by surface area in New Zealand (after Lake Taupō) and the largest in the South Island. It is the second largest lake in Australasia by fresh water volume. The main body of the lake runs north-south, and is 65 km in length. The surface of the lake is at an altitude of 210 m. It has a maximum depth of 425 m, so much of its bed lies below sea level, with the deepest part of the lake being 215 metres below sea level. Most of the lake is within Fiordland National Park and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Site, the latter of which was officially recognised internationally in 1990. (Wikipedia)

This view is from the Te Anau Wildlife Centre. This centre is run by New Zealand's Department of Conservation, and houses native birds which are rare, endangered, injured or needing special care. We were hoping to get a closer look at the Blue Ducks in the Centre's breeding program, but they were not on show as it was breeding season.

Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation is a historic site in Georgia known for its numerous live oak trees, some of which are estimated to be 500-800 years old. The plantation was a working rice plantation from 1800 to 1913 and is now a state historic site with a mix of salt marsh, pasture, and flatwoods.

Every now and then someone at the reddit photoshop subreddit asks about creating a glow effect. A few years ago I'd come across a youtube tutorial from Spoon Graphics about doing this. I'd bookmarked the tutorial and will often paste the url into the reddit thread so the person can see if it would help them.

I decided that I might as well follow the tutorial.

I like that it makes use of layer blend modes and smart object layers and clipping masks. And color LookUp tables.

It had started out as a black/white Hipstamatic shot from the iPhone I had been using back then.

One of the nice things about Adobe Lightroom is the ability to organize images in various ways.

For example one can create a "smart" collection, assigning various conditions and parameters that would cause images to be included or excluded. When finished editing an image in Ps and saved with the PSD extension, I also save it in a TIFF version consisting of a single layer.

So I have chosen to create smart folders organized by date, such as Tiffs_2017-12, in which I found this image. All the TIFFs created in the month of December 2017 could be found in that smart folder unless they have been posted to Flickr.

I've done the same for PSDs. Opening this image's PSD in Ps reminded me of what I had done back in December.

Toward the end of last year I had been playing with photos shot with the camera and then sent to my phone for editing in the phone's apps. I had created various versions of this using Snapseed and Stackables.

I then exported each of those versions back to the computer where they got stacked as layers in Ps. By playing with blend modes and masks, and sliding opacity one can mix various aspects of each version.

Since I found this image again, I figured I should post to the Sliders Sunday group while waiting an hour for one of the world cup matches I am eagerly anticipating.

Germany - Mexico

If each team plays to their ability, this would be a fantastic game.

Maybe as much fun to watch as Portugal - Spain had been.

Meanwhile, have a great Sliders Sunday!

5 Of 7 German Shepherd Dogs At Apollo Beach Dog Park Today - IMRAN™

Kennedy & K2 didn’t get as much walking dome in the last two weeks as I’ve been really busy. My daily 10,000-12,000 steps routine is down to 6,00-8,000.

Tuesday was very hectic but shortly before sunset I was able to take them to the Apollo Beach dog park. It was a pleasant surprise to see five GSDs there already. I only had time to take one photo with five of them, including both my German Shepherd Dogs, with red Kong collars, in one place because people had been leaving as sunset approached. But the breed gang got to have some fun because the personalities of all 7 GSDs were as wildly different as characters in a Quentin Tarantino film.

you guys - i haven't uploaded anything for a month! i don't know how that happened (except for traveling and then life being busy) and i will try to catch up asap. i haven't stopped taking pictures - at least that's something...

About my book.

I published a book in old days.

At that time, I was uploading my interview on the net on the net.

That Japanese and English.

I will make it public for free.

Details were explained to the Amazon site.

How to write a novel.

How to take pictures.

Distance to the work.

They all have a common item.

I made a sentence about what I felt, and left it.

I hope that my text can be read by many people.

Thank you.

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Working 9 of 10 nights, 12.5 hours each, and this is what I get to see in my travels around the hospital. Actually I see way more than this, but some really good laws prevent me from photographing any of it. I figured the stairwell needs love, too!

I recently upgraded to an iphone 5 from my iphone 4. The camera is a needed upgrade. Since the new body doesnt fit my old case I had to get new lenses. Instead of paying $$$ for an oliclip, I hit up ebay to pick up this 3 in 1 clip. It has a macro, wide angle and fisheye attachment. Feel free to follow me on instragram where my iphone only photos live. Below is an image I took using one of the these lenses.

An exclusive preview of the new iPhone 5, set to have much improved reception compared to the iPhone 4.

please note: simple invites to post an image to a particular group are always welcome but no pictures, awards, or badges in comments. i call it dumping on the lawn. thanks very much for understanding, and I sincerely appreciate your visits.

Squirrel using iPhone 5 and Olloclop 2X telephoto lens - lets me get closer without scaring the squirrel.

Just testing my new iPhone 5. i am actually seriously thinking to sell my 1Dx and just live with iPhone 5. it is a killer phone and most of the smart phone's available in the market are already looking for places to hide. so far i have loved the panoramic feature of the iPhone 5. also i am not complaining about 25 megabits/ sec internet speed which is 3 times faster than my cable internet.

Brauweiler Abbey (German: Abtei Brauweiler) is a former Benedictine monastery located at Brauweiler, now in Pulheim near Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, in Germany.

It was founded and endowed in 1024 by Pfalzgraf Ezzo, count palatine of Lotharingia of the Ezzonian dynasty and his wife Matilda of Saxony, a daughter of Emperor Otto II and Theophano. Ezzo and Matilda were buried here, as were their two eldest sons Liudolf, Count Palatine of Lotharingia (d. 1031) and Otto II, Duke of Swabia (d. 1047).

From 1065 until his death in 1091, Wolfhelm of Brauweiler, later Saint Wolfhelm, was abbot here. His relics were enshrined in the abbey church, and miracles were reported at his tomb,[1] but all traces of them were lost centuries ago.

The present abbey church, now the parish church of Saint Nicholas and Saint Medardus, is the third building on the site, built between 1136 and 1220 or later. The abbey was dissolved in the secularisation of 1803. The premises were subsequently used, under a Napoleonic law, as a hostel for beggars, and from 1815 under the Prussian regime as a workhouse.

From 1933 to 1945 the buildings were used for the internment, torture, and murder of political and social "undesirables" by the Gestapo and the civil authorities of the Nazi government. Prisoners included Konrad Adenauer, the former mayor of Cologne and first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. From 1945 to 1949, it was an open camp for displaced persons administered first by the British Army and then by UNRRA (United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration).

The abbey buildings are now used by the Rheinisches Amt für Denkmalpflege ("Rhenish Department for the Care of Historic Monuments").

I went on vacation up to Wisconsin about a month ago and did a photowalk one day while my friend had to work. Ended up with some pretty nice pics. Tons more to come later from my actual camera, and I'll try to get back to posting here regularly since I've slacked off lately.

By request, available as a print on Redbubble. Thanks to everyone for the faves and nice comments!

Taken with my iPhone 5. No editing, no cropping. Can it be more perfect? :)

Not much different from the iPhone 4, but boy does that slate finish look so much classier.

I thought it might be time to throw in some colour, but I always get quite anxious about it! Still, I've got a good shadow to keep me company and help me feel at home...

And for those who don't get into these things, turn away now as there will be no more here about this here shot, but rather I am accepting Nina's www.flickr.com/photos/21560098@N06 challenge to keep talking about myself. I have to admit, it kinda makes me feel a bit of a dick, but I'm sure I'm just being silly. Hopefully.

1. Needless to say after that, but I can get quite anxious over how people will take my meaning, if you take my meaning. Now, this is only the case if I like or respect you. If I don't know you, don't like you or think you're a dead shit, then who gives a brass razoo what you think, but if I like you etc, then I worry about shitting you off. But usually I'm quite good at turning the worry off, or at last ignoring it!!

2. In repose I can look really stern, but at the same time I smile so much that the crows feet on either side of my eyes have been mini valleys since I was in my late teens!

3. I love a good midnight boogie in the back garden with my ipod.

4. Half my family are musicians, as are a large number of my friends, but I've never had the patience or courage to learn anything. But I've started to realise I can sing a bit. That's fun, although I've yet to subject anyone to it much!

5. I worked in bookshops for about 8 years and have always had a real thing for books. I have over 5000 of the buggers and they cover every available (spare) surface in our living room. As well as the five bookcases and the picture rail running around the room. Although I haven't read many books this past year and a half as my reading has been almost entirely online and related to various projects and work, books have been my salvation, temptation, inspiration and balm for many years and I'm sure they will continue to be so.
